Why A ‘Harry Potter’ Reboot Is A Terrible Idea

Loading...

Harry Potter is an extremely popular series of movies based on an extremely popular series of books. It is so popular that a Harry Potter reboot seems inevitable at some point. Even Daniel Radcliffe seems to think so.

Yet is it a good idea? In a way, it would make sense. It would almost be a shame for such a popular series to not get some kind of revival. The story is great, the characters are intriguing, and the world is expansive.

There’s so much to explore in a potential reboot but many may wonder if a revival would be a good idea in the first place. Find out why a Harry Potter reboot would be a terrible idea, ahead.

Why might ‘Harry Potter’ reboot?

Reboots and remakes seem to be popular right now. It would make sense for a series like Harry Potter, one that’s become a pop culture phenomenon, to be rebooted. Despite how much fans may love the original movies, a reboot would make sense from a cultural standpoint. If we are in an era where revivals are trending, why not reboot Harry Potter?

Though many fans would probably have something to say about it, many others might be excited. After all, more Harry Potter magic is always good. As the story is so rich with interesting and vivid details, there would be a lot of material for any reboot to work with. The story wouldn’t even necessarily have to only focus on Harry himself as there are so many fascinating secondary characters in the books and movies.

Why might a ‘Harry Potter’ reboot be a good idea?

Wait, Harry Potter fans. Hear us out. A reboot might not be all bad. Though it could probably never beat the original movies in many fans’ hearts, it might be alright.

Screen Rant seems to believe that a TV adaptation much like Game of Thrones would give the world of Harry Potter the reboot it would deserve. This adaptation would give fans a chance to get to know the world and its characters perhaps in more depth than we were able to get in the movies. Any TV adaptation might have more of an ability to be accurate to the books.

Yet is a reboot really such a good idea? Maybe not.

Why a reboot wouldn’t be a good idea

Harry Potter is a classic series of movies. A reboot would cheapen the story or lessen its authenticity. While a TV version might possibly give more room for the characters and world to breathe, another version of Harry Potter might not add much for the fan base.

Often, reboots leave much to be desired. They do not keep enough of the spirit of the original story in them and are also rarely original enough to justify their existence. While there are good reboots out there, Harry Potter is the type of story that doesn’t need a reboot as it is timeless in a way.

Rebooting a timeless story like Harry Potter should be done with care if it is indeed done at all. Many fans would probably argue that it should not be done at all as the original movies are still perfectly good. Probably things like special effects have improved since the Harry Potter movies were released, yet that in and of itself is not enough to justify a reboot.

In the end, it is not our decision to make. If a Harry Potter reboot does happen, it might not be the worst thing. Still, it would probably be a better idea to leave the story alone.
